Welcome to Cara Mooney Photography, the casual and ever-growing portfolio of a travel enthusiast and adventure-finder. This has been an evolving digital project starting since 2010. Here you’ll find a colorful mix of wildlife and landscapes as well as photos captured from my adventures around the world and close to home in New York.
About Cara
I have always enjoyed the arts and have dabbled in painting, drawing, and jewelry making. One constant has been my love of photography. Traveling is one of my other great joys, so it made sense that my photography naturally follow my travels and adventures.
I had done some traveling with family when I was younger, but in college, I spent over 18 months living in Spain and interning at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. This was followed a year later by an even longer stint doing a Fulbright Scholarship in South Korea, where I taught middle school English full time, volunteered with North Korean defectors, and did research on the impact of music on Korean political protests, and of course, did tons of traveling.
When I’m not traveling, I work fulltime at a tech startup in NYC and every once and a while, freelance as a tech consultant, graphic designer, and web developer at Cara Mooney Designs. This work has me working with primarily small to medium-sized companies and local business owners, with projects ranging from standard graphic design or website setups to full digitization of business practices.
Other hobbies include hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and playing with our dog, Nimbus (@nimbuzzzzz).
My Gear
Body: Canon EOS 40D, EOS Rebel T6i EF-S, and the Canon RP (mirrorless!)
Lenses: Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6, Canon EF-S 18-55mm, Canon EF-S 55-250mm, Canon EF 40mm f/2.8, Canon EF 50mm, Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 and Rokinon FE14M-C 14mm F2.8.
I also use a GoPro and a drone for some extra fun.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
– Mark Twain
